Educational Equity

An education is valuable, and should be an ensured right for everyone—regardless of (but not limited to) socio-economic standing, geographical location, age, gender, sexuality, and background.

Yet, this ideal is not applied in education today.

The National Center for Educational Statistics show that 75% of African-American and Hispanic students attend schools where the majority of their classmates qualify as low-income, whereas only 33% of white students do. These studies also confirm that students with lower socio-economic standing were less likely to complete their college education.

It is obvious that there is a prominent gap between low-income minority students and education.

Under my leadership, I will prioritize funding towards public schools in low-income communities in order to provide marginalized students with equitable access to resources.

What Khanh will do as Senator:

- Increase state funding for public education

- Minimize the gap between higher education and low income students by ensuring that all Washington students have the opportunity to take college entrance exams like the SAT, ACT, and AP tests

- Ensuring that under-resourced schools receive equitable funding to provide students with necessities like adequate counselors, nurses, in addition to academic community strengthening programs like free tutoring, test prep and mental health services, and food and shelter resources.
